The County (local Authority) by laws for fire protection require the following (section 214):

Fire fighting.
214. In any public building, or building of the warehouse class or domestic building, where any floor is more than 20 ft. above the ground level, the council, may require the provision of such fire fighting equipment as it considers necessary, including one or more of the following-
(a) hydrants, hose, hose reels and fire appliance external connections;
(b) portable fire appliance;
(c) sprinkler, drencher and water spray projector system;
(d) water storage tanks; and
(e) dry risers.

"As a Design Engineer for Building Services, including fire fighting, often I encounter Architectural designs that require engineered solutions. In a recent case I was faced with the task of complying with the Life Safety Code NFPA 101, which provides for safe egress from the building. I needed to ensure compliance by designing the smoke control system in accordance with NFPA 92 B standard which recommends keeping the Make Up Air velocity under 1 m/s. Unfortunately the Architectural concept could not accommodate this requirement owing to the provided area of the supply louvers. The solution was to approach REFABS to verify, through their Fire CFD experts, an alternative engineered solution. This worked well for us as we were able to agree with the Architect and also comply with NFPA 101. I definitely would recommend REFABS Fire CFD Consultants".
